I dunno, something that old must be pretty tough--like eating a leather boot or worse.

I seem to recall not so long ago, somebody yanked a 40lb lobster from that same vicinity...

Hey, if you were 100 years old and had been yanked out of your home, would you want to be someone's dinner?

I'm not gonna get up on my soapbox (and before anyone starts thinking I'm a PETA nut, I'm not. They're too militant even for me, and I try to be more realistic about it), but I say good on them for finding Bubba a home. Tells me there may be hope left for a smidgen of this world after all. :)

Relatives who live on Cape Cod had had a couple lobster pots off the end of a dock. They used to get lobsters, live flounder, and halves of flounders (live fish swims in, and gets eaten by a lobster) in the pots. A small lobster that got into the pot they decided to keep in a fish tank in the house. After some months they decided to put it back in the ocean--it did NOT want to go back into the ocean, it apparently had been very much enjoying life in a small fish tank, being fed, and not having anything else, especially other lobsters, around trying to eat -it-.

As for Bubba Lobster you posted about, it didn't survive long, alas...

Back before the economy in Massachusetts tanked, the state had been starting up a program to study lobsters--not much is really known about their life cycle. The program was going to work with blue lobsters, which are about 0.01 percent of lobsters or some such--yes, there -are- lobsters that are all-blue in color. Look closely at a pondful of lobsters (cheap entertainment for kids in supermarkets in this part of the USA) and there are ones that are more orange, ones that have mottling on their shells that's almost black, some that have a lot of blue on their shells... but the program got canned when the state's finances got tight.
