May. 20th, 2005 @ 03:39 pm Oh sweet watermelon of anarchy!
104
108
110
110
105

Whatever you think those numbers are, they are in fact the expected highs for the next five days.

Ok all my AZ friends can now snicker at me, you said it would be hot and this is only the start of the hot weather, it's gonna get hotter.

All my other friends, if you feel the need to tell me that it's a dry heat, please don't ;)

I hope that everyone else gets great weather where they are and whatever they are doing.

Yep, time to start feeling like a toasted marshmallow. Enjoy it now, August is-a-coming. Dry heat is better, in August is becomes moist. Go to Walmart and buy one of those tiny wading pools. Go to Circle K and get some of those big ass blocks of ice. Set them up in your living room in front of the tv. Turn up the A/C, add water, pour yourself an iced beverage and enjoy! Put a kiddie slide in it and you'll have your own indoor water park!

Start watching for lizards on rocks or walls. You'll get to see them doing push-ups, it's how they try to stay cool and it's fun to watch.

AC, fans and thanks to azang I now have plans for an indoor pool!

My place is pretty sheltered too, southern exposure so I don't get much direct sun.

Southern exposure? Don't get much direct sun? Oh my lad, come here and let me cool your fevered brow. Unless you've got awnings and such over your south-facing facade and windows (which I doubt), you're gonna roast. Does the sun hit your roof? Another bad sign. (You said you were in an apartment, so I mention this only as a maybe-he's-on-a-lower-floor hope.)

As for A/C ... it is very rare now that any dwelling in Sthn AZ does NOT have a/c or at the very least, swamp coolers. There's an Arizona history book we used to use in TelRef that maintained that it was really only the invention of good working swamp coolers that made it possible for the population to boom here after WWII.

The temps are hitting us hard this week because we've had such a mild spring. And trust me, cliche' though it is, dry heat is waaaaaaaaaay better than mugginess you got back East.

Well if you'd come over you'd know what the place looks like :)

Seriously, we should catch up.

I've got a yard full of very tall palm trees and um other trees between me and the big bad hot thing in the sky.

Two ceiling fans, an office fan and a big oscillating fan makes sure that the air is moving as much as I can stand it.

The AC seems to do a great job, I'm keeping it set much warmer here (80's with an actual temp of mid 70's)then I did in Virginia (where I kept the thermostat in the low 70's and was lucky if it was less then 85 in the place when I got home.)

I'm not really whining already about the temps, I expected this, but I figured I'd make all my friends back east glad for the weather they have right now.

So, come on over! or you might want to wait until I replace my sofa and comfy chairs, there's not much to sit on right now but a couple of bar stools and a dining room chair. Oh and my office chair, but that's My Office Chair ;) The plan right now is to do shopping in Flagstaff next weekend. I might not buy anything up there, but I'll at least have an idea of what I want, then I'll come down here and see if I can get it cheaper!

Yes, I agree we need to get together! Wanna get together after work, hit someplace for dinner? I'd invite you over -- and will, eventually -- but you know how Jennifer's place was (is) looking lately? Mine's like that. I don't have empty bags of horse feed in the entryway ... heck, I don't have an entryway ... but it's still much too awful to bring in a new guest.

Speaking of whom: now that KARAVANS is done, a celebratory visit is in the offing. I was planning a BBQ and feasting with a bunch of friends -- if you're not up in Flag at the same time, I'd like to have you over to meet the locals. :) Mac you met two Christmases ago, but there'd be a couple of others as well. Tuck it in the back of your mind, and I'll let you know the details when I know them.

Trees in the back yard are a Huge Plus. Good A/C is a godsend. (Mine is more like your Virginia beastie: set it at 80, hope it stays under 82.)

Go ahead and whine about the temps -- we're so far above normal right now that born'n'bred Zonies are whining. The fact that it's pushing 80 for a nighttime low is adding insult to injury. When we get back to 65/98, it'll feel like winter all over again. :)

It looks like my start date will be June 6th, they are trying for May 31st, but it's a long shot. I've also got an interview this Wednesday or Thursday that might turn into a job. (fingers crossed big time!)

So I'm free just about anytime. I'd heard that there might be a celebration visit in the offing and would be glad to attend and meet folks (some for the second time!)

It's very pleasant in my place right now, I've got my 45" wading pool set up in the living room, three 50 lb blocks of ice floating (well resting) in it and all the fans focused on me. I don't know what I was complaining about :)

Oooooooo...I'm guessing my recent purchase of APS stock and my investment in various Sun Block companies is going to prove to be a wise idea.

I'd suggest you'd get those window treatments that let you see out but blocks UV rays (and thus heat) from getting in...but you already thought of that, I'm sure.

So, ready to move back East yet?

Yeah, it's my plan to single handedly make APS recover fro that whole Enron mess of a few years ago. Why I've still got three servers and a giganto monitor to plug in still.

In fact, I should get that knocked out this weekend, thanks for the reminder!

Oh, well, if it's only hitting 110 in Phoenix, we should be just fine down the road. :-)

Actually, here's one thing to take heart from: Arizona's hottest month is actually June. You're in the hottest season right now: we've begun a little early, but it's only going to get a little bit hotter than it already is, most likely.
