Sin City report first
WOW

That's about it, I'll see it again before I really understand it all and can be more coherent. I was a little overwhelmed by the violence but as lrcutter said in her spoilerish LJ report here it's Comic book violence. Folks get seriously beat upon and just come back for more. If you take it that way, it's not so horrific. That's not Bruce Willis being sliced and diced, it's Wiley Coyote. Same for the women, those aren't everywoman, they're comic book anti-hero harlot-goddesses. Don't take it personally. Here endth the cut.

Now for the update, I last posted Friday AM, I got in 300 Friday, Saturday and Sunday were nearly wipes, but I made up for it in spades yesterday so I'm confident posting this:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
1,800 / 4,800
(37.0%)

Not too shabby huh? I also got all my framed artwork packed up (wrapped in extra thick kraft paper and stowed away) and have sealed and labeled my first box of books that I know I'm taking with me!

I'm hoping to get at least another 300 done today, but I won't do that if I'm sitting here!

Later!

Above graphic, still from http://www.zokutou.co.uk/wordmeter was borrowed without warning from a posting by mevennen, but it has also been featured prominently in suricattus's LJ, who is also pretty, talented, wickedly funny and very evil as evidenced Here, with Suricattus second from the left and Mevennen 5th from the left and agamisu center frame with very little to be learned in evilness.Buy all their books, stories and cast off shopping lists, read the LJ and if you very very good at being bad, maybe you'll get to go to Scotland this summer! Or at least so I keep telling myself ;)

So, do you need to know anything about the comic to enjoy the movie?

I don't think so, I only knew what I had absorbed from the reviews and buzz here on LJ and I enjoyed it.

I do think the visual effects of a mostly black and white film are stunning.

Something someone mentioned that isn't spoilerish, but very true. Most B&W films are grey, the contrasts here are much sharper then you'd see in say most other B&W films. There are many scenes, there it's only B&W. Think about them after the movie and tell me if you don't think they really stick with you.

It sounds like this is one to catch in the theater. I think it's coming here really soon--maybe I can get terrymcgarry to go with me ;)

Good Idea, I think she'll really like it, I got Kurosawa vibes off of parts of it (well I do now, at the time it was overpowering, kind of like cast strength scotch. Needed a little time to open up and breath.)

You may have my cast off shopping lists for a very reasonable sum if I can only remember where I put them.

Aw thanks, I'll treasure them always.

I rewrote that bit at least three times trying to find something that wasn't offensive/suggestive or just too stalker-like.

Kidding aside, if there's going to be a charity auction at Worldcon, you should consider donating any loose bits of trivia to the auction. Folks will buy the strangest things if there's a cause involved.

I'm hard to offend.

Finally, a use for all those old tea towels!

I'm kidding. We hope.
