I was off work Monday, so I figured it was a good time to take the cats to the vet and get their shots updated and have them checked out before moving them to AZ.

Skitz (the younger cat) had other ideas. I got a hold of her, but she decided she wasn't going into the carry and darted before I could get it closed. She then led me on a merry chase around the apartment, staying just out of reach until it was too late to make the appointment.

So I called in and canceled and rescheduled for Friday next (this Friday I'll be in AZ heading for a Job interview!), but she still wouldn't come out of hiding. I was getting worried that I'd pushed her over the edge, she was always very scared of other people, but OK around me, if she started to consider me just someone else to be afraid of, life would suck.

But then late last night, she crept out to give me a few whaps with her paw (which means either "feed me" or "pay attention" depending on some mystical cat logic). So I gave her a few treats, she seemed to have forgiven me, but then I knew for sure.

She promptly coughed up the treats on the rug right in front of me!

It's so nice to be forgiven!

Aw *g*. Kitty presents.

I'm glad things are going so--hm. I don't want to jinx you. How about "break a leg"?

Break a leg is perfect, I'll also except toasts, prayers, good thoughts/vibes and even cash :)

Monday is the interview, not sure if I'll be able to post anything after that until I get home on Tuesday (red eye, first class, America West loves me :), the most likely result is "thanks for playing, we'll be doing one more interview of the final selections in the next 3-4 weeks, if you don't hear from us by then, feel free to check in and be told you didn't get it" Or some variation of that theme.

But, the Job description couldn't be a closer match to my resume if I wrote it myself. And, I really am one of the 12 best people at doing what I do, outside of super highly paid vendor folk, or super highly paid Top Secret Clearance folk, in the nation, possibly globally.

Yeah I'm full of myself, but I also know my skill set, how broad it is and how narrow most folks in the field are.

I'm gonna knock 'em Dead!

:)

I wonder if they're generally hiring....

I posted an "is this mailing list still alive?" email to the alumni list of the last place I was a fulltime employee (it imploded and died a slow whimpering done-in-dotcom death at the end of 2002, shedding people starting around April 2001 and continuing down to a skeleton by the middle of 2002, I was laid off at the start of April 2002 having watched the QA & release engineering department I was in go from 15 or so people at its max down to the manager, one release engineer, one contract QA person, a customer support person moved to to be half-time support and half time QA, a software engineer moved in from development, and me... and the contractor, the support person, and I were all pinkslipped at the same time). The list did turn out to be alive after all. One person's teaching 8th grade math now, one's out in Redmond working for Microsoft, one person posted that there a company in Nevade involved in computer gaming looking for people, apparently the talent pool out there is thin compared to the openings s/o w/h/y d/o/n//'/t t/h/e/y s/e/t u/p/ a b/r/a/n/c/h o/f/f/i/c/e/ h/e/r/e/?

Is that anything like Dancinghorse's comment about her stallion peeing while she was in the saddle?

Ours is not to question the logic of cats. I have yet to figure out how and why On responds to things. There seems to be an internal logic to it, but it completely baffles me.

Work Question

The world is a small place. Devis is the contractor for one of my web sites, Milspouse.org. Do I know you from that initiative?
BTW, found out about the connection through a friend who was reading your post on Suri's "No Swear Words" thread.
Cheers,
Jean Marie

Jean Marie!
(Busted LJ'ing at work!) But it's not billable hours!

I'm sure we've bumped into each other, either virtually or directly.

I'm Tom Powers, the Internet/Network Security Architect at Devis, ISSO for those projects that required one.

Where do you know Suri from? (Could I have run into you in NY/NJ sometime? If so, then it would be a Really Small World!)

Don't know her personally, but friended her on LJ and interviewed her for CRESCENT BLUES

Don't know her personally, but friended her on LJ and interviewed her for CRESCENT BLUES <www.crescentblues.com>. Have heard her on lots of con panels, though. Most recently at WFC 2003. Loved the first Retrievers novel too.
Haven't had the vacation time to do Lunacon in years, though my husband and I attended with Paul and Pam Barnett (a.k.a., John Grant and Pam Scoville) in 1999. Plan to attend this year's WorldCon in Scotland. Normally, I pass on WorldCon in favor of DragonCon (it feeds a deep, personal need for anarchy), but this year they don't conflict.
Cheers,
Jean Marie

Hey, I guess this means I'm busted too. *smiles*
Never considered the possibility that we were talking billable hours. Guess you can tell I'm content, not contracts.
Cheers,
Jean Marie
