gmail, igoogle, even the google search weren't responding for me for about 4 hours tonight.

Now they're back...

No they're not.

Oh Wait, yes they are again.

So whatever is going on I'm still seeing it.

Good luck!

Every once in a while google.com will resolve to google.fr. What's up with that? (Or, should I say, sacre bleu!)

See a follow-up I just made to fionagh re: a massive internet attack. If google is a target, then maybe they're passing the load off to some of their overseas servers and instead of hiding that fact, the .fr's are well being French :)

I'm still seeing some slow downs and the off fault when I write a long email (and gmail autosaves it) or hit a link off an email.

Very strange.

Here it's not just Google. For the past 3 days, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Live Journal, and just about any other major site goes down all at the same time, except some of my sites like deviantArt and my Tweeks forum sponsored by Proboards. What's up with this? Ben told me you'd made a post about it and I'm wondering how we look up what's really going on with these hiccups! It's like the internet is experiencing brown outs! Things just sort of blink out and aren't accessible, sometimes for a good hour. Lately it's only been for a few minutes. Any idea what it might be?

Well I did hear at work that the DOD (US Dept of Defense) had undergone a major internet attack two weeks ago and while that was compensated for, evidently the schmucks that did it are still out there looking for other targets.

A massive bot attack would put tons of traffic on the internet and cause what we're seeing.

BTW, while I was completely offline on google, a friend on the east coast wasn't seeing any problems at all. So the problem seems to be on the Intertubes and not with Google or even myself (since I started working again).

Searches for "Google server outage" or variations are most likely to give me links to an outage that happened a couple of years ago.

Stupid Internet!

This happened to me too in Cali -- friends in other states and even in Northern Cali weren't seemingly affected. It almost seemed as if my DNS server or gateway into the rest of the net had crashed somehow. It's still happening in small spurts again today.
